Letter from Camp Leadership

With the Shades Valley YMCA, you are participating in a camping program you can count on, not just for good supervision and safety, but for the personal growth of your child.  We work hard to select leaders who will be positive adult role models for your child and who have demonstrated responsibility, maturity, and reliability.  Our attention to safety and the campers' health has resulted in a safety record that any organization would be delighted to match.  Beyond safety and good supervision, the YMCA believes that special, positive, and growth-filled opportunities await every child who attends the Y camps.

We look forward to providing a quality camp experience for your family.

In Service,

Mallory Smith, Traditional & Specialty Camp Director
Katie Watkins, Splash Camp Director
Jerry Wrenn, Sports Camp Director

Why Your Child Belongs at the Y:

Our Core Values: We make our core values - caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility - part of everything we do.

Our Commitment:  We plan our programs around essential elements to help kids grow up caring and responsible.  We call these elements "Developmental Assets."

Our Staff:  We are caring, competent, and experienced.  Our training includes safety, activity planning, CPR, First Aid, and more, making your child's experience both safe and fun.

Our Promise:  No child is denied access due to inability to pay.

Our Pledge:  We are dedicated to making your and your child's experiences at the Y extraordinary.  At the end of the day, your child will come home with stories of a fun-filled and fabulous day.

Low camp/staff child ratios:
1:10 entering grades K-3
1:12 entering grades 4-9

Which camp do I sign up for?

Please take a minute to look through our brochure for more detailed information (a link at the top of the page will allow you to view our brochure).  Traditional Camp Programs are designed for specific age groups and are a great experience for new and returning campers.  Specialty Camp Programs offer multiple options of activities related to a specefic theme.  Sports Camp Programs offer a focus on a different sport every week and are a wonderful way for your camper to try out new sports.  Splash Camp Programs are great for the water lover, and these campers will get to experience a variety of water activities each week.  As your child attends camp throughout the summer, we recommend registering your child in a variety of camps to expose them to enw and different possibilities.  If you are interested in an overnight experience, consider the overnight resident camps at YMCA Camp Cosby.
